More About Me

Me |01
Me |01 teacher to a class of one

I adopted my daughter, Lexi, in the fall of 2009. She was 6 1/2 years old when she came home.

We stayed in Russia for a year and a half together. Then, I decided it would be best for us to take some time to fill her up with all the experiences she'd missed out on early in life. I home schooled her for two years (2011-2013). It was both amazing and enlightening. I learned so much about myself as a teacher. We both enjoyed our time home schooling enormously, but we're also both enjoying being back in the classroom.

Me|02 actor & director

I love theatre. There is a magic that accompanies it that cannot be recreated elsewhere. I enjoy going to the theatre and creating theatrical experiences. I have been performing since I was a young child. I studied at The Oxford School of Drama and was a professional actor and director for years.

My favorite role is difficult to pin down. I love the joy and energy of musicals, the beauty of Shakespeare and the synchronicity of theatre and education found in historical interpretation. But, my students always find it most impressive that I'm the voice of a video game character.

I enjoy sharing my passion for theatre with students in both school and community theatres. While I am an elementary classroom teacher, I particularly enjoy directing and teaching acting to middle and high school students.

Me |03
me|03 traveler
I love to travel. For me, it's an opportunity to live someone else's life for a short while. I am grateful for the perspective I gain and the changes to myself as I experience someone else's world.

My most magical trip, I think, was my first trip alone to Europe. Having the world open in front of me, experiencing places that I'd only read about, was astounding. Although, taking my daughter to the Arctic Circle in Lapland on dogsled rides and in reindeer sleds to meet Santa was magical in its own right.

International teaching has changed me, in a similar way. Instead of me going to see the world, the world comes to me in my classroom. Like the third-culture children I teach, when I hear a country's name now I don't see a flag or a map--I see faces.
