beliefs & practices

Our world is changing so rapidly that it is impossible to predict what content our students need to be mastering in order to be successful adults. But, we do know that they will need to be able to work together, to positively impact their community, and to be independent learners who ask questions and seek answers. That is my goal for every student.

In my classroom, I create a safe environment and a strong community of learners who work together and learn from each other. Activities, outcomes and modes of learning are differentiated so that everyone is active and learning. I particularly enjoy working with ESL students and finding ways for them to not only learn to speak English, but to become confident members of the class.

In addition to my classroom experience below, I have created educational programs in conjunction with Carillon Historical Park, directed plays for various schools, and taught humanities for a home school co-op. These varied experiences, seen on my pdf resume, show my commitment to learning not being confined to the walls of the classroom.

Currently I am a teacher for VIPKid. I teach EAL classes online to students ages 4-14 years who live in China. And, I am a teacher supervisor, evaluating new teachers and offering support. It's a whole new classroom!
